Plan To Double Tourism  04.10.2007 back
Serbia expects to collect some USD 500 mln from tourism by the end of this year, with aims to double this by the end of 2008

Minister for Economy Mlađan Dinkić says that Serbia expects to collect some USD 500 mln from tourism by the end of this year.

He said the ministry with jurisdiction in the sector provided a blueprint to double tourist income by the end of the current cabinet's mandate to a billion dollars annually.

Dinkić pointed out that his ministry's plan was to demonstrate that the country, although landlocked, can pull in significant tourism money, as others in similar circumstances do.

"We must work in a coordinated manner, to achieve greater efficiency. The state will invest more and I'm sure private investment in hotels and other tourist capacities will follow," Dinkić told reporters Wednesday as he toured Žagubica, in eastern Serbia.

He was in town to present a master plan for the development of a local mountain resort, announcing the state would invest EUR 50 mln in the next five years, in a bid to develop local infrastructure.
